Pikmin
Overall Rank By The SMRC: 89.9/100
Recommendations: Rent it first, Decent Own.

Nintendo's infamous game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, seems to be trying to do it again with a new plant like creature called Pikmin. This odd, short, strategy game is the first new creation from this department of Nintendo in a while, but seems to be a success.

The games graphics are normal. They have some high quality textures and very smooth gameplay. Although smooth gameplay may not seem that big of a deal, it is when you realize you have over 100 individually moving objects (mainly Pikmin) moving on the screen at any given time. On systems such as the PS2, this would cause monumental slowdowns. The game also supports progressive scan HDTVs, showing off just how sharp a game can be.

Sound also seems to be quite normal for Nintendo. Its set at the right pace, isn't to repetitive, and seems to be peaceful in that weird-plant-like kind of way. Sound effects are also decent, adding to the gameplay. However, nothing monumental here.

Gameplay is where this game stands out. Although a rather short game, it can be rather fun to control 100 individual Pikmin with just one guy. The controls are amazingly simple for doing such a complex task. The game is a little on the short side, but this was by design, making it so that you would play again and again. There is a warning that goes with this gameplay style: Some people like it, some don't. Knowing this, you might want to rent the game first.

The SMRC recommends this game to those that are fans of games such as Black and White or Sim Ant. We do recommend that you rent it first however, for not all gamers will like this style of gameplay.
