Recommendations: Must Have: Top Notch!
Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPG's ever made. I have played quite the number of RPG's in my day, and I have to say this is... Well, I'm not sure if I'd say my favorite ever, but definately high on my list of favorite games. It's phenominal storyline, great graphics, and fantastic sound quality make this game a beyond-the-shadow-of-a-doubt must-have for any true RPG player.
Story line: 98 | This is one of the best storyline's I have ever witnessed Square produce. The game takes us through time and space to give us one incredible ride of an RPG. We begin the game as Crono, just a kid who wants to go to the Millenial Fair. But the action produces quickly... |
Battle System: 93.5 | Definately one of the better battle systems I have encountered, though not as good as FF5's and FFT's job system. In battle, your characters have their abilities, or Tech's, which they can use kinda like magic. But the new addition is the ability to combine techniques with other characters in the battle, making for some vicious combos with the right people. Also different from RPG's of the day, some techniques cover a particular area of the battle field, since the battles are actually fought in the real area, not a separate screen. Some techniques can hit these monsters, but not those. Some effect the area directly around the character, or just hit all the enemies on a straight line. It's a fantastic way to make the battle system work. |
Replayability: 95 | The replayability on this game is incredible. The game was programmed so that, instead of the usual game-never-changes, as you go through the game and make different choices, the end result chages dramatically, from surviving to being completely eradicated. Simply put: Fantastic. |
Graphics: 92.5 | For the SNES, these graphics are simply stunning. Detailed scenes of a jungle to the cold harsh reality of a desert of ice, the game creators did an incredible job of making the most out of the SNES. SO far, I have seen one game match Chrono Trigger in the ways of graphics on the SNES, and that's the Secret of Evermore. (Click Here to see the review for the Secret of Evermore.) |
Sound: 98.5 | The Musical score and other sounds for Chrono Trigger were simply amazing. For once the SNES used actual symphony sounding quality in it's games, not the usual midi-mix-up. All of the music is simply stunning from the hapy-go-lucky sounds of the Millenial Fair to the more depressed war-torn countryside of Guardia kingdom, all of it was awesome. That's right, music from a game I wouldn't mind listening to just to listen to it. |
Overall(NOT an average): 100 | Yes, it's extremely rare for me to do this, but I had to give this game a perfect score. There are very few game I even CONSIDER giving a perfect, let alone actually getting it. But it had to be done for this game, as it's one of the best out there. The beautiful music combined with the stellar graphics(for SNES) and an incredible storyline made for one of the best games ever. |
Should you get this game: | If you don't already know my answer to this one, you didn't read the rest of the review. YES, get this game if you ever have the chance. If you only have a SNES, I feel sorry for you, as this game becomes extremely expensive, with prices somewhere in the $100's or $200's. But, if you have a PSX or PS2, your in luck, as Square released this game plus FF4, another fantastic game, in Final Fantasy Chronicles, available pretty much wherever games are sold. GET IT.
