Final Fantasy 4(or 2 for you Americans) is another of the old-but-great RPG's from SNES. It looks like a simple early SNES game but has the storyline and gameplay of a great RPG, with twists, turns, a nd some really cool other stuff in-between. A definate must-have.
Storyline: 95.5 | Definately one of the best out there when it comes to story developement. You begin the game as a Dark Knight named Cecil and are aboard your airship fleet called the Red Wings, following the orders of your king to get all the crystals of the world for him. Little do we know there is so much more happening than meets the eye. |
Battle System: 85 | Yes the age old battle system makes another appearance. Seeing as its the same used in so many other RPG's, it just gets really old really fast. It's still all good and fun though, as you get to use 5 people at once, so thats a switch from the usual. But other than that, its all the same. |
Replayability: 87.5 | Though it's the same time after time, the games interesting storyline makes it still kinda fun to go through more than once. And the option of finding anything you missed last time is always cool. |
Graphics: 75 | Ugh... Those are some hideous graphics. Though considering the time of creation, they were good then, I'm going to give them an OK for today's standards, since it's just fun to play. |
Sound: 70 | Ack, bad midi-mix-up. Regrettfully, most of the music does get on ones nerves, but at least it's better than FF5, its successor. While a lot of the music I liked, it just got kinda old after a while. |
Overall(NOT an average): 96 | What can I say, I have always loved this game. It's interesting storyline made the grade for me, as I could go through it again and again. Though most of the other stats were low, considering the time made, the game rocked all-around |
Should you get this game: | In my opinion, this game is a definate must-have. It's much better and more original than most games that RPG makers are pumping out lately, so it's always nice to be able to go back to the old days of awesome RPGs. If you know you want this game, it's become easy to find as of late because of the release of Final Fantasy Chronicles, which includes FF4 and one of the greatest games of all time, Chrono Trigger. If you have a PSX or PS2, this combo is a must-have-NOW. (Click Here for the Chrono Trigger review.) |
