Recommendations: Must Have!
The Secret of Evermore is definately a cool game, very original and very fun. It uses a unique "alchemy" system instead of the tried and true magic and MP system. The game has one of the wierdest storylines I have ever come across, but is definately a fun game.
Storyline: 98 Very cool and very original. This game is set around this kid whose apparently into sci-fi fl icks. This kid chases his dog into a wierd house and they are transported to a different space and time entirely. If that wasn't enough, the dog has changed shape! Dude, that's odd, usually dog's don't do that. Well anywho, as you continue more and wierder stuff happens, so rent the game to find out more!
Battle System: 90 I only have one real problem with the battle system: it's a direct copy of the battle system from the Secret of Mana, except instead of having spells and such, your character uses "alchemy" to create effects much like spells, just without the spell points. The only problem with alchemy is that you need specific combinations of materials to do specific spells, which definately gets annoying when you run dangerously low on an item during a boss fight. But otherwise a very cool game.
Replayability: 87 Though I don't think the game changes from play to play, it's still pretty fun to play through more than once, just because it's such a wierd, but cool, game. Also, finding secrets you missed the first time around is always cool in my book(What can I say, I'm a treasure hunter!).
Graphics: 98 Definately tied with Chrono Trigger for best graphics I have seen on a SNES based RPG. Very impressive backgrounds and effect graphics make the game look sweet.
Sound: 88.5 Though it has been a while since I played it last, I do remember that the game had some pretty high-quality sounds goin' on. If memory serves, the music was very enjoyable, and the sound effects were fantastic, especially for a super nintendo game.
Overall(NOT an average): 97.5 Definately one of the higher-marked games for SNES. The graphics, sounds, and wierd but really cool storyline made this game a sweet buy. I recomend this game.
Should you buy this game: In my opinion, yes. It's an extremely cool and original game, hard to find in the RPG community nowadays. The graphics are phenominal(for snes), and the music isn't half-bad either. Though it's hard to find, I recomend trying.
